All about Finding Esta – Re-evaluated R4 #ROW80 Goals

30th September 2012 By Shah Wharton 15 Comments

Hey ROWers. Howdy all.

So I looked over my update posts of round 3 and although I hadn’t moved along as swiftly with my MS as I’d hoped, I had a few goal successes illustrated with yummy red strike-threw’s, and accomplished quite a lot besides ROW80 goals:

  1. I moved house – still in the process of decorating and settling in.
  2. We bought a puppy – exceptionally gorgeous, hugely demanding.
  3. I got diagnosed with-hypoglycaemia and pre-diabetes and had to completely change my diet/fitness routine.
  4. I had a scary low Bipolar mood, which meant I needed to increase my meds.
  5. We spent two weeks in UK, attended the wedding of my niece in Scotland.
  6. House guests, after house guests, including a randy teenager for three weeks!

So although I’m still trudging through beta readers feedback and editing Finding Esta, I won’t feel bad about myself. Instead of wishing Finding Esta was with the editor, I’ll make the next few weeks all about Finding Esta and give the process the time it deserves.

Over my first 3 rounds, I’ve learned that to expect less from myself is not a weakness, it’s being pragmatic, clever and honest. I cannot be a superhero – EVER! So there’s no point trying. Neither can I last the dissatisfaction of yet another semi-failed ROWer round. This is why I re-evaluated previous goals with the benefit of this hindsight, and tailored this rounds’ goals accordingly.

My round 4 ROW80 Goals….

My main goal for round 4 is to get my manuscript through the final leg of edits and ready for publication Autumn 2012 (up to December 21st).

Also, I need to allow time for NaNoWriMo 2012 when I hope to complete the first draft of book three of The Supes Series – Finding William, and at some point fit in the first re-write of book two – Finding Luna. I’ll stress here, these are hopes – the main goal remains publication of Finding Esta.

Health Goals –

I have hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia/pre-diabetes, chronic headaches and anaemia, and bipolar disorder. *groan* but I’ll do just fine if I keep on track with a few things:

  1. Exercise for at least 30 mins, every other day – (walking/playing with Bobby counts daily 😛 )
  2. Eat as prescribed by my nutritionist and lias with blood sugar specialists.
  3. Monitor the hypo(& hyper)glycemic occurrences.
  4. Remain self-aware of my moods regarding bipolar disorder.

Writing Goals

Do something to push along the publication of Finding Esta every week until it’s done.

This will include;

  1. Finish my own edits and send it off to my editor.
  2. Refining it after those edits.
  3. Get it formatted.
  4. Then publishing it to Smashwords, Amazon and anywhere else required, hopefully before Christmas.
  5. Once published,  I need to get the word count/measurements over to my cover designer for the print edition.

Also,

  1. Write some more guest posts
  2. Keep up my book tour participation/reviews/feature authors
  3. Write ROW80 Updates
  4. 1st Wednesday of every month: Write The Insecure Writers Support Group post.  All posts here
  5. UPDATE: I have a new blog for OctPoWriMo! So a poem a day is required for that – wasn’t sure where to slot this goal however, as its blogging and writing related. Here’s as good a place as any. 🙂 Are you signed up?

Blogging Goals

  1. Visit everyone who visits me as and when I can.
  2. Reply to everyone who comments on my posts.
  3. Leave thoughtful and post relevant comments on a few blogs each day.

Social Networking Goals

Thanks to ifttt I have set up most of my sharing needs to happen automatically. I highly recommend this free service. Also, Triberr helps me to share posts and to get my posts out there too.

  1. Update/Share on Triberr – daily
  2. Respond to anything on my Facebook Page from LIKERs when I can.
  3. Update Amazon/Goodreads/Pinterest when required –

Other Goals

I’m still including reading challenges and fifty-fifty.me (reading and viewing 50 books and 50 movies during 2012) in these bi-weekly updates.

NaNaWriMo – throughout November I may be absent on and off. Forgive me, I really want to use the challenge to spur me on through the first draft of Finding William (or the re-write of Finding Luna. I haven’t decided yet. 🙂

Reading Books/Articles

This is not so much a goal/requirement, rather a place where I record my reading progress.

  1. Read for craft
  2. Read for review
  3. Read for pleasure

Watching Movies

  1. Watch movies and record them here, Pinterest and my 2012 Challenges page. Simples! 🙂

Are you up for round 4? Have you re-evaluated your goals in light of previous rounds?

Dang, that’s an impressive list! Moving is so hard and I’m still settling into the new place after a year of being here. Good luck on these goals!

You’re not wrong Sidney. We’ve moved every year since 2003 so it will be a huge relief to just stay here for a couple of years (I hope that happens). It take so much out of you!! X

Yeah for shooting for more realistic goals! And I hear you on the health issues: a couple years back, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (weight gain, argh!), and now I also have high blood pressure — unfortunately two conditions that bite each other in the ass. 🙁

Good luck on your goals for this round!

I’ve learned a lot over the first 3 rounds – I cannot be super-woman (damn it) and there’s nothing I can do about that. I have yet another procedure to see why I’ve had chronic acid reflux for around six years. About time I guess – camera down my gullet in the AM. 🙁 Cheers Ruth.

I have to say, with my schedule I don’t think I could do 50 books and 50 movies in a year. Good luck on this round.

I’m really struggling with my quota for reading without my Kindle. I hate reading on iPAd. Roll on next month when I get my kindle fire HD .:)

I totally understand that. My kindle broke, and I was forced to my iPad, and it threw a wrench into my reading. Kindle now replaced, though!

I hope that things are better with you. Write me if you need me! You’ve been so great for me!

I try and re-evaluate goals once or twice a year, as life changes. One thing I’m trying to do is break my habit of procrastination – but it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks! Your list makes you look very organized, something else that I’m not always very good at. 🙂

Lol – I’m so not well organised. And procrastination is like a sickness all of its own. Lists and gaols help me to have a little organisation an at least a sense of deadlines – even if self imposed – I need these things to steer me through procrastination and its murky waters. 🙂

Ugh. Sorry to hear about your health issues, they can be a real nuisance and hamper on productivity. I also have a problem with hypoglycaemia and migraines among other nuisance conditions the doctors can’t find a cause for, so I can empathise. But having a big German Shepherd to cuddle makes it a lot easier to bear 🙂 You have a lot of goals but I’m sure you’ll manage them. Good luck 🙂

Dread: A Horror Collection

This is a deeply unsettling collection of British horror. Each story features a post-apocalyptic theme, though each is starkly different from the other.

A Slow Burn:
“I will admit to having read this with the lights well and truly on!! Such vivid imagery[…]I highly recommend this novella to all lovers of this genre.”

The Dead Party:
“One of the best political satires that I’ve come across in a long time!”

Rosa and Bella’s Journal Of Decline:
“Brilliant and addictive. Yet another fantastic book from this author.”
